What Should I Know Before Buying a Boston Terrier?

Before buying a Boston Terrier, you should be aware of the following important factors:

  1. Boston Terriers are a energetic breed that requires daily exercise and playtime.

  2. They are known for their stubbornness, so patience and consistency in training is key. They are intelligent and usually love to learn and be mentally stimulated so keep giving them positive reinforcement.

  3. Boston Terriers are prone to certain health issues such as breathing problems and eye conditions, so make sure to find a reputable breeder that only breeds healthy dogs based on their dogs' health histories, DNA testing, x-rays etc.

  4. Schedule regular check-ups with a vet to try to prevent health conditions from fleas, tics etc.

  5. They are a social breed and require plenty of human interaction, so they may not be the best fit for those who work long hours or travel frequently.

  6. Boston Terriers are typically 15-25 pounds and can adapt to living in apartments or smaller spaces, but they still need room to move around and play so if you live in a smaller home be prepared to take them to dog parks and other areas where they can get their zoomies out.

  7. They have a short coat that requires minimal grooming, but they do shed moderately.

  8. Boston Terriers are not typically aggressive, but they can be territorial and protective of their owners so properly socializing them is important to their well-being.

  9. Boston Terriers have a unique personality and can be very entertaining and affectionate companions.

  10. Know the Breed Standard and make sure that the breeder you choose is breeding for health rather than color.

This may not be a complete list for you and your situation but by considering these factors and doing thorough research, you can better determine if a Boston Terrier is the right fit for you and your lifestyle.
