9 Tips On How To Keep Your Boston Terrier Active

Keeping your Boston Terrier active is essential to their overall health and well-being. Not only does regular exercise help prevent obesity and other health issues, but it also provides mental stimulation and can help prevent destructive behavior. Here are some tips for keeping your furry friend active and happy.

  1. Daily Walks: Taking your dog for daily walks is an excellent way to keep them active. Not only does it provide exercise, but it also helps with their mental health by allowing them to explore new sights and smells. Aim for at least 30 minutes of walking each day.

  2. Playtime: Playing with your dog is not only a great way to keep them active but also helps strengthen the bond between you and your pet. Play fetch, tug of war, throw balls for them to chase, or hide and seek to keep them engaged and entertained. Our dogs love to play keep away or catch me so we get our exercie in by chasing them lol. Just make sure to train your dog when this is ok and when it is not ok.

  3. Dog Parks: Dog parks are a great way to provide your dog with socialization and exercise. They can interact with other dogs and run around in a safe environment. Do not take them in public places until they have had all of their vaccinations. Make sure you are supervising them in case your dog or someone else's dog gets too aggressive.

  4. Swimming: If your dog enjoys the water, swimming can be a great way to provide them with exercise. It is also an excellent low-impact activity for dogs with joint problems. Boston Terriers are a brachycephalic breed (short-nosed) which means they may get tired sooner than say a lab swimming in the lake so stay with them and supervise them closely. If you don't live where you can take your dogs swimming, our dogs love to chase the garden hose in the back yard and they love jumping in and out of our kiddie pool.

  5. Agility Courses: If you want to take things to the next level, consider enrolling your dog in an agility course. These courses provide mental stimulation and physical exercise while teaching your dog new skills.

  6. Interactive Toys: Interactive toys such as puzzle feeders or treat-dispensing toys can provide mental stimulation and keep your dog active. These toys encourage them to use their problem-solving skills while also providing them with a reward.

  7. Training: Training your dog is not only a great way to teach them new skills but can also provide them with mental stimulation. Training sessions can be a fun way to keep your dog active and engaged. Try teaching them basic commands like sit, stay, and come, or more advanced tricks like roll over or play dead.

  8. Set up an obstacle course: Boston Terriers love to play, so set up an obstacle course in your backyard for them to run through. You can use things like cones, tunnels, and jumps to create a fun and challenging course.

  9. Consider agility training: Boston Terriers are great at agility training, so consider enrolling them in a class. This will help them build confidence and improve their physical abilities.

Important To Know - You want to be especially cautious to not overexert your Boston Terrier dogs, especially in warm or humid weather as they are a brachycephalic breed (flat faced or smoosh faced). Adequate exercise is important to make sure they remain fit and healthy, however, always supervise them to make sure that they don't overheat. Always have cool water on hand.
